Botox for Hyperhidrosis
According to the International Hyperhidrosis Society, nearly 5% of the world’s population suffers from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Excessive sweating often interferes with everyday life and can make simple tasks such as gripping a doorknob, wearing a certain type of clothing, or shaking hands much more difficult. Millions of people around the world suffer with this, but our medical providers can offer a solution to control and reduce excessive sweating with Botox® injections.
What areas can be treated?
Botox® can be used to treat hyperhidrosis in the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), hands (palmar hyperhidrosis) and feet (plantar hyperhidrosis). When used to treat underarm sweating, Botox® has been shown to result in an 82-87% decrease in excessive underarm sweating. In the case of palmar (hand) excessive sweating, research shows that Botox is 80-90% effective.
How does Botox for hyperhidrosis work?
Botox is a natural, purified form of Botulinum Toxin with the ability to temporarily block the secretion of the chemical that is responsible for activating the body’s sweat glands. By blocking this chemical messenger, the area injected will begin to sweat less.
What to expect after Botox:
Results typically begin two to four days post-treatment and Botox will be at its peak strength two weeks after injection. On average results last six months, but some patients have reported it to last up to a year.
