LED Light Therapy
What is LED Light Therapy?
LED light therapy is the newest in anti-aging technology. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and our device is unique in also emitting infrared light when activated. The light given off comes in different wavelengths (denoted by color), all of which offer unique therapeutic benefits. This therapy, developed by NASA to aid Navy Seals in wound healing and muscle regeneration, has finally found its way into the aesthetic arena! This unique light-based treatment can treat acne breakouts, wrinkles, bruising, inflammation and even Seasonal Affective Disorder.
How does Light Therapy work?
Our skin and tissues have the ability to absorb light and convert it into energy, similar to the way plants absorb energy from the UV rays emitted by the sun. Unlike plants, however, we are unable to safely absorb sunlight without causing damage to our skin. By emitting UV-free beneficial light rays, this treatment helps to energize cells while simultaneously stimulates the body’s natural ability to regenerate cells and build new proteins. LED Light Therapy offers both immediate results as well as cumulative results, both of which can help support and maintain results from other services.
Immediate results include:
· Increased blood circulation
· Reduction of inflammation
· Accelerated healing
· Minimized appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles
· Toned skin
· May promote better product absorption
· A radiant glow
Cumulative results:
· Repairing and rebuilding collagen and elastin
· Improved cellular function
Amber/Red/Infrared Light
Red LED Light Therapy combines advanced red and infrared lights to increase circulation, reduce inflammation, and encourage deeper product absorption. By penetrating the epidermal layer of the skin, the Red LED Light also stimulates collagen and elastin to prevent the early signs of aging and restore an overall radiant, healthy glow. The Red Light is FDA-cleared to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Our device is the only LED unit on the market with a unique infrared light, which is also FDA approved to aid in pain relief and wound healing. Because of the increased circulation, oxygen and nutrients are delivered directly to the tissues in need of repair. This wavelength is being used by doctors to diminish bruising and swelling and accelerate the healing process. We can now minimize the downtime and discomfort associated with many of our treatments such as fillers, microneedling and laser treatments like BBL.
Blue Light
Blue light LEDs have been shown to be effective in the treatment of acne by destroying P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. Our device’s blue light is FDA-cleared to treat mild to moderate acne in both teenagers and adults. The light penetrates down to the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin and kills bacteria from the inside out. When Blue light is used in combination with Red light, there is a powerful reduction in inflammation and redness due to an increase in oxygen circulation. Together, these two wavelengths help to clear existing breakouts and prevent them in the future.
What can I expect during a LED Light Therapy treatment?
During a treatment you will relax on one of treatment beds while the LED lights are positioned over the area of concern. Patients can expect to feel a warming, but not hot, sensation during the treatment which lasts on average around 15 – 30 minutes, depending on what skin concerns are being treated. Protective eyewear is available for those with light, sensitive eyes.
What skin concerns can LED Light Therapy address?
LED Light Therapy can address a range of skin concerns, including anti-aging, acne, inflammation, uneven skin tone, wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, redness and even bruising.
How many LED Light Therapy sessions are needed to see results?
The number of LED Light sessions needed varies depending on individual skin concerns and treatment goals. Some individuals may notice improvement after just one session, but a series of treatments is typically recommended for optimal results.
Is there downtime, side effects or recovery associated with LED Light Therapy?
No, there is no downtime or recovery time associated with LED Light Therapy treatments. It is non-invasive, and individuals can resume all normal activities immediately after a session. Side effects can include mild redness or sensitivity immediately following treatment for sensitive skin individuals however, these effects are temporary and will resolve on their own.
Does LED Light Therapy help with wrinkles?
Yes, LED can help stimulate collagen production which can help with fine lines as well as wrinkles and offer an anti-aging effect overall for the skin.
Can LED Light Therapy be combined with other skincare treatments?
Yes, LED Light Therapy can be combined with other skincare treatments such as facials, chemical peels or microdermabrasion to enhance results. Combining treatments can help address multiple skin concerns simultaneously and promote overall skin health.
Who should not have an LED treatment?
Women who are or could be pregnant should seek approval from their physician before undergoing a new treatment of any kind. Patients being treated with Accutane should discontinue its use for 6 months prior to an LED treatment. Those with an extreme sensitivity to light or who suffer from migraines brought on by bright light should exercise caution. Anyone currently taking photosensitizing drugs, have any suspicious or possibly cancerous lesions and anyone with epilepsy should consult with their physician prior to this treatment.
