Work from home (WFH) doesn’t have to be all work and no fun. You can make positive, healthy progress on your skin while staying at home. Acne is a problem that concerns many of us. But with a consistent and detailed skincare regiment, we can all maintain a clear flawless complexion. My “WFH” acne guide can be done from the privacy of your home and is a relaxing and refreshing way to start or end your day.

Products you will need for this “WFH” treatment:

LightStim (Acne)

Cosmedix Purity Solution (oil based cleanser)

SkinMedica Cleanser

SkinMedica AHA/BHA Cleanser (optional)

Obagi Pore Therapy (toner)

Obagi Therapeutic Moisturizer

Start by cleansing the skin with first an oil based cleanser that will remove any makeup or pollutants that are residing on the skin. You will then follow with a gentle cleanser of your choice, I have combination/ acne prone skin, therefore my preference is the SkinMedica basic Gentle Cleanser. If you are choosing to treat with the LightStim only once a week then it would be a good idea to cleanse with a gentle exfoliator instead, the AHA BHA Cleanser from SkinMedica is a good choice. The gentle exfoliation will support an even penetration of the wavelengths by removing any dead skin cells. After your face is completely clean, dry, and rid of any invisible barriers it is advisable to use the LightStim for at least 30 minutes, this will create the perfect base for a light moisturizer full of antioxidants to be lathered on after the treatment.

LightStim emits UV-free, beneficial light energy into the skin which, like plants, our skin absorbs that energy and essentially helps in the treatment of mild to moderate acne. The combination of red and blue light help to treat the skin for different concerns pertaining to the causation of acne. This LED combination is effective for killing p.acnes bacteria, it helps to stabilize sebum production by decreasing androgenic hormones in the sebaceous glands. The deeper red LED light aids in the reduction of acneic inflammation and subsequent scarring. LightStim not only calms current breakouts but helps to decrease any future breakouts as well as evens out skin tone. This LED portable device is perfect and safe to use on all skin types. With no side effects, the LightStim “WFH” treatment is sure to be a homerun.

Following the light treatment you can tone the skin with a salicylic acid. Pore Therapy by Obagi is our favorite here at La Chele. Salicylic acid is great for removing grime and bacteria to purify the pores, this helps to keep the skin clean and free of any irritants. Salicylic can be drying, therefore, if it is too harsh on your skin as an all over toner, spot treating with the Pore Therapy is beneficial as well.

Dry and dehydrated skin leads to an overproduction of oil. This overproduction of oil is the skin’s way of making up for the missing water so it is very important to end with a light moisturizer. Many, including myself at one point, thought that because my skin would be very oily at times that by using a moisturizer I would only be adding fuel to the fire. Well, I was way off and ultimately that is the probable cause for much of my acne in my teens. Due to my skin being dehydrated my sebaceous glands would create more oil to try and make up for the moisture it was missing. This created a breeding ground for breakouts.

The best advice that can be given to anyone dealing with acne is to stay consistent, be attentive to what your skin needs, and cooperate with any skincare professionals in regards to a skincare regimen that is best for you. Acne does not just go away on it’s own, it takes a lot of hard work and commitment in all areas of your life from a stressful environment  to what you apply to your face. So take advantage of a “work from home” day with a relaxing skin care routine and enjoy the results.
