How does Botox work?

Botox targets one of the underlying causes of wrinkles—repeated muscle movements. Facial expressions such as squinting, smiling, or frowning, can lead to the formation of wrinkles. Temporarily immobilizing the muscle from within allows your skin to heal over time. With regular Botox treatments, your skin will become consistently smoother.

How long does Botox take to be injected? Does Botox hurt?

The treatment itself takes less than 10 minutes. This minimally invasive procedure is relatively painless and yields little to no downtime.

What can I treat with Botox? How long does Botox last?

Botox is best used in the upper one-third of the face including between the brows, forehead and around the eyes. Botox is strategically placed to relax targeted muscles to allow for the skin to heal over time.

Botox begins to take effect between 5-7 days, although you may notice subtle changes within 24 to 48 hours. Your results will peak at two weeks post-injection and gradually fade over the following 3-4 months. Botox is FDA-approved to last up to 4 months. For optimal results, we typically recommend treatments every 12-16 weeks.

How does Botox treat wrinkles on the face?

Repeated muscle movements (frowning, raising of the brows, etc.) are one of the key contributors of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is a neurotoxin, temporarily relaxing specific muscles on the face to allow for the skin to heal over time.

What parts of the face can Botox be used on?

Botox is best used when placed in muscles in the upper ⅓ of the face. Botox can be used in specific muscles in the lower face as well, depending on your aesthetic goals.

Where do you get Botox injections for headaches?

Although La Chele does not specifically treat migraines with Botox, Botox injections in the upper ⅓ of the face have been shown to decrease severity and frequency of headaches. TMJ/jaw pain can also contribute to migraines. Botox and other neurotoxins can be used to treat TMJ/jaw pain to improve migraines.

Where should I get preventative Botox?

Botox can be used to prevent the formation or worsening of fine lines and wrinkles in the upper ⅓ of the face by inhibiting certain muscle movements such as frowning.

Does Botox help under eye creases?

Creasing under the eye can be attributed to muscle movement and/or volume loss in the area. If the creasing is due to muscle movement, very small amounts can be placed under the eye to soften the appearance of creasing when smiling. A La Chele provider can evaluate you to see if Botox is the appropriate treatment.

Which skin care products are recommended to pair with Botox?

To preserve your results from neurotoxin treatments, it’s essential to maintain a skincare routine with medical-grade products such as our Line Free Serum, Moisture 150 and, of course, SPF.
